MARRIAGE LICENCE REQUIREMENTS
NOTE: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE COMPLETING
THE APPLICATION FORM
GENERAL:
An
application form must be completed
and signed by both parties in order to obtain an Ontario Marriage
Licence. The application form must be submitted to the marriage
licence issuer along with supporting documents for both parties.
Both parties are encouraged to attend in person, however only one
person is required to attend to submit the application provided they
have the proper documents for the absent party.
The
marriage licence will be issued, in most cases, the same day if all
documentation is in order. It is recommended that you make an
appointment with the Clerk’s Department at 519.634.8444 or by
e-mail.

Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. (closed statutory holidays)
LICENCE FEE:
$115 (effective June 2005)

INDENTIFICATION:
ANY TWO OF THE FOLLOWING
PIECES PROVIDED AT LEAST ONE PIECE CONTAINS A CURRENT PHOTO:

NOTES:
This identification must be provided for both individuals.
Documents in a language other than English or French must be
translated by a certified translator.
WHO MAY MARRY:
Any
person who is at least 18 years of age may marry. Applicants 16 or
17 years of age require parental consent. A form (Form 6) must be
completed and signed by both parents/guardians. Additional

CANADIAN DIVORCE:
The
ORIGINAL or COURT CERTIFIED COPY (not photocopies) of the DECREE
ABSOLUTE or CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE must be shown to the licence
issuer. A Judgment issued by the Court is not acceptable
proof of divorce.
FOREIGN DIVORCE:
If a
divorce was granted outside Canada, please request additional forms,
which provide further information and instructions. Contact our

INTERPRETERS:
If
you do not understand or read English, you must provide your own
interpreter. The interpreter will be required to provide
appropriate identification.
EXPIRY DATE:
An
Ontario marriage licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a
period of three (3) months from the date of issue. There is no
waiting period in the Province of Ontario to be married once the licence is issued.

CIVIL MARRIAGE CEREMONY:
Civil ceremonies are
offered in Council Chambers or the Livingston Park Gazebo at
a cost of $225 plus GST (gazebo rental extra).
