About Development Services

Building a sure foundation

The Development Services Department is the centre of information and service relative to land development, land use, economic development, and building.  Development Services is committed to providing an informative and timely response to all building and development related inquires and applications.

Directed by Harold O'Krafka, the Development Services Department is comprised of two sections: Planning and Building.

PLANNING

The planning department is responsible for activities relating to use and development of land and economic development initiatives.  The department ensures that all development proposals conform with Township polices and facilitate all necessary approvals before permits for construction are issued.

The department regulates use of land through zoning and designation of land, subdivision and condominium approvals, consents, minor variances, site plan approvals, home and farm occupations, refreshment vehicles/carts, site specific sales, and hawkers and pedlars licenses.

Planning is responsible for promoting the continued economic development of the Township.  Initiatives such as website development, facilitating land inquiries and participation in organizations and public groups such as CTT ensures that economic development is promoted at a local level.

The planning department is involved in many ancillary activities including mapping services for the Township, website design and maintenance and involvement in local groups such as Heritage Wilmot.

The planning department uses the past and future visions to promote a viable, orderly, and sustainable future for Wilmot Township.  Please contact the department if you have any questions.

BUILDING

The primary role of the building department is to review, issue, and inspect all building permits to ensure that all structures are safe, accessible, and comply with the Ontario Building Code.

Building permits are reviewed by the Township plans examiner for compliance with Ontario Building Code.  When the permit is issued, fees and required inspections are noted on the building permit.  After issuance, the applicant is responsible for contacting the building department to arrange for each required inspection.

Do you need a permit?  Click here to find out when permits are required and click here to view a copy of the building or demolition permit application.

The building department provides skilled and knowledgeable inspections and review to ensure that all construction is safe for occupancy.  Please contact the department if you have an questions.
