RECREATION SERVICES

Nancekivell, the
Facilities and Recreation Services Department is comprised of four sections:
Aquatics,
Arenas,
Parks
& Facilities,
and Community
Programs.
AQUATICS
The
Aquatics Section is responsible for day-to-day maintenance and
operational activities of the pool. Also the Sections plans
all aquatic programs including the Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program
(4 months of age through to adult lessons). Staff utilize the
Lifesaving Society and Red Cross Leadership programs for advanced
aquatic instruction. The Township also offers a wide variety of
recreational swim opportunities including length swims, family
swims, open swims and aquafit classes. The Wilmot Aquatic Aces (swim
club), Special Olympics and the Board of Education are also major
user groups at the Wilmot Community Pool.

ARENAS
Management
of the Wilmot Recreation Complex and the New Hamburg Complex is the responsibility
of the Facilities & Recreation Services Department. Day-to-day
maintenance and operational activities as well as food concession
operations, ice installation and removal, scheduling, and
maintenance are all coordinated by this Section.
During
the summer months, arena staff assist in the parks as required, and
perform seasonal maintenance activities on the arena/community
center building and grounds as well as helping with summer facility
rentals and during major events held at the arena facility and on
the adjacent fairground property.

PARKS
& FACILITIES
The Parks
and Facilities Section provides maintains, operates and assists with
the capital planning, for all municipally owned facilities (except
Fire and Roads facilities), in the Township. These facilities
include the five local Community Centres, the Wilmot Recreation
Complex, New Hamburg Complex,
Wilmot Community Pool, the New Hamburg Municipal Building,
Centennial Hall, and the Castle Kilbride/Administration Building in
Baden.
As well,
the Parks and Facilities Section oversees the maintenance of all
municipal parks and pavilions, sports fields, the Wilmot Arboretum
and municipal cemeteries.

COMMUNITY
PROGRAMS
The
primary focus of the Community Programs Section is to research
recreational trends and programs, facilitate the development of new
user groups and programs, foster a positive working relationship
between the municipality and community groups (new and
long-established), develop private or corporate partnerships and
pursue funding opportunities to meet local recreation and leisure
needs.
Operational
responsibilities also fall within this division, which include
municipal facility and bartender scheduling (all parks &
facilities, except arena ice), administering the municipal alcohol
risk management program, revenue monitoring, facility marketing,
program promotion and assisting with the coordination of
municipal/community special events.
