On Monday, December 11, at the first meeting of the 2018 ad hoc Budget Advisory Committee, the committee established a target levy increase of 1.95% for the 2018 budget.
The levy increase is a combination of inflationary pressures based upon Core CPI at 1.70%, and an additional levy of 0.25% to cover the anticipated costs of Bill 148 legislative requirements in 2018. Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, and more specifically the increase of the minimum wage to $14.00, is estimated to cost approximately $18,000 in 2018.
After factoring in assessment growth of 0.76%, this increase would generate approximately $204,500 in new funding towards programs and services across the municipality.
The committee also approved revisions to the Fees and Charges schedules; endorsed the allocation on $44,247 in grant funding through the Municipal Grants Program.
