Fire Education

The Wilmot Fire Department provides public fire and life safety education and distributes fire safety information aimed at changing human behavior with the goal to prevent fires and, if they should occur, to ensure citizens react appropriately.

We accomplish this through a variety of public education initiatives such as a smoke alarm program with home escape planning and the distribution of fire safety education material to residents and occupants.

Public education initiatives are established based on the risk profile and priorities set within the Fire Master Plan. These are identified as:

  • Children (School Static Displays)
  • Seniors (Seniors homes providing fire safety presentations)
  • All residents (annual open house, newspaper ads, holiday fire safety tips, station tours and smoke alarm program)

Community Static Displays

The Fire Department participates in many community events throughout the year. Allowing the public to see our fire vehicles, equipment and speak to our firefighters is always a crowd pleaser. These events provide us the opportunity to continue our fire safety messages to ensure the public stays informed and stays safe.

To book, please complete the online Community Static Displays form.

Upon receipt of the form, the acceptance of a community static display will be at the discretion of the Station District Chief. All community static displays will need to be received and accepted 30 days prior to the date of the event.

School Presentations

Wilmot firefighters are heavily involved with educational opportunities within the school system. We are invited to participate in community leader's week. Firefighters come into the classroom with equipment to show the students and explain what a firefighter does for the community. To book a classroom visit submit the online form to the Public Educator.

The online form must be completed 30 days prior to the desired presentation date. Presentations are delivered only if commitment from staff or station firefighters is available.

Fire Station Tours

The Wilmot Fire Department invites Wilmot community groups/organizations to visit its fire stations and vehicles. Requests must be submitted 30 days in advance. These visits are available to Wilmot Township community groups. For others residing outside of Wilmot, please contact your local fire department.

Station Tour Rules

Please be aware of the following for fire station tours:

  • All fire stations are on an "on call" status, even during the station tour. Therefore, if an emergency is received at the station, the tour may be ended early to respond to the emergency call.
  • If the firefighters are not at the station when you arrive, please wait, they may be back within 10 to 20 minutes.
  • The Wilmot Fire Department will do all we can to honour your request. Should a cancellation occur your time with us will be rescheduled.
  • Transportation must remain available on-site as tours may be interrupted or cancelled on short notice due to emergency call outs.
  • Visits are a maximum of one hour.
  • Appropriate adult to child ratio shall be maintained throughout the visit to ensure adequate control and supervision. This is one adult within your group for every 5 children.
  • Recommended maximum group size is 30 people.
  • Visitors will not be permitted to handle equipment or mount any fire apparatus unless approved and supervised by fire personnel.
  • These visits are meant to be educational in nature and we do not offer the facilities to accommodate parties, food or drink.
