Garbage and Recycling

Changes to garbage, organics and recycling collection are now in effect. Review the information below to learn more.

Garbage and organics changes

In March 2026, the Region of Waterloo moved to cart-based collection for garbage and organics.

The Region provides curbside collection service to approximately 161,000 single-family homes, duplexes, and 3-to-6-unit buildings, as well as 8,500 multi-family units and townhouse complexes that meet truck-access criteria.

Previously, most of the collection was done manually, by lifting waste materials and placing them into the collection trucks. By switching to cart-based collection, the Region will improve worker safety, operational efficiency, and cut down on waste collection day litter.

Visit the Region of Waterloo's website for full details.

Recycling changes

Recycling in will now be picked up every other week in Wilmot.

You should have received two new recycling bins to accommodate the change in collection frequency. If you did not receive new bins, they will be delivered in the near future.

You can also collect your new bins between 8 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday, at Miller Waste's offices (2138 Eagle St. N, Cambridge).

Call Miller Waste at 1-888-852-3450 (press 1) if you would like to speak to a representative about your missing bins.
