Mayor Natasha Salonen, along with Councillors Stewart Cressman and Steve Martin, represented Wilmot Township at this year's Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa. The four-day convention brought together municipal and provincial leaders from across Ontario to discuss local priorities and strengthen partnerships.
Throughout the conference, the Wilmot delegation met directly with several Cabinet Ministers and senior officials. Wilmot’s delegates emphasized the importance of provincial and municipal partnerships when addressing challenges like the housing crisis, health care delivery and long-term infrastructure investment.
In addition to representing Wilmot, Mayor Salonen participated in regional-level meetings with Cabinet Ministers in her role as Regional Councillor, as well as joint-township discussions advancing shared goals across the Region of Waterloo.
Mayor Salonen also served in her broader provincial leadership roles as a board member of both AMO and the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA). In these capacities, she contributed to province-wide policy discussion that will shape the future of municipal governance, rural advocacy, and local service delivery.
The AMO Conference is Ontario’s largest annual gathering of municipal officials, offering a forum to collaborate with colleagues and meet directly with provincial decision-makers. The delegates felt the time was well spent and left encouraged by the outcomes their meetings will deliver.
