Backyard Laying Hens Licence

The keeping of backyard laying hens may only occur if licensed by the Township of Wilmot. Before you keep hens in your backyard, you must:

Complete the online Application for Backyard Laying Hens Licence
Have your property inspected by staff (to ensure all requirements are met)
Pay the licensing fee in accordance with the Fees and Charges By-Law

Zoning Requirements

The zoning requirements are as follows:

6.32.1 A maximum of four hens (no roosters) may be permitted on a property of 0.2 hectares or larger.

6.32.2 Backyard chickens must be kept within an enclosure that ensures the hens are contained on the same lot as the Residential Building to which their keeping is accessory.

6.32.3 Any building or structure or enclosure used to house or contain backyard chickens is prohibited

(a) between a Residential Building and the front lot line and within any an exterior side yard, and side yard; and
(b) within 15 meters of any part of a building used for human habitation on an adjoining lot and within 3.0 meters of any lot line.

Flag Raising Policy and Application

Flag Raising Policy and Criteria

The Flag Policy applies to the display, maintenance and disposal of Flags flown at Township Facilities.

A community flag raising is limited and specific to the Community Flagpole located at the Administration Complex.

The Community Flagpoles may be used to fly flags significant to the residents of the Township of Wilmot:

in honour of national holidays;
in support of fundraising drives; and
to celebrate multi-cultural and civic events.

The Community Flagpoles will not be used to fly flags:

of Political Parties;
of Religious Groups;
in support of fundraising drives that are political or religious in nature; or
in support of groups, organizations, or events that promote beliefs contrary to any other Township policy.

Requestors are responsible for:

Submitting a flag flying request on an annual basis, and approvals shall be based on a first come first served basis. An organization's flag shall be flown no more than once per calendar year
Providing the flag in good condition, i.e. no discolour or tears
Organizing activities and for all associated costs, including providing the flag to be flown and notification to the media.

Application Process

All organizations and/or persons submitting a request for a flag raising must complete the Online Flag Raising Application.

This Application will be retained by the Office of the Clerk and will be reviewed as part of the approval process.

Approval Process

All flag raising requests will be reviewed by Municipal Staff to determine if they meet the criteria listed above. The Clerk will notify requestors if their request does not meet the Community Flag Raising Criteria.

Requests that meet the Community Flag Raising Criteria will be forwarded to the Mayor for approval.

The Mayor will review and approve flag raising requests. When a flag raising request is approved by the Mayor, Municipal Staff will notify applicants of the approved request and copy all Members of Council and the Clerk.

Noise By-Law Exemption

In order to obtain a Noise By-Law Exemption, you must:

Complete the online Application for Noise Exemption
Provide neighbours within a 200 meter radius of the source of the noise with a written notice of noise exemption application. Please review this sample letter as a template.
Pay the exemption application fee of $50
