Baden, ON – Each year on November 11, Canadians honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country during times of war, military conflict, and peace. The Township of Wilmot, together with the Royal Canadian Legion, New Hamburg Branch, is proud to join fellow Canadians on Remembrance Day as we pay tribute to our veterans.
The Township of Wilmot is encouraging community members to take a moment to recognize 75 memorial banners displayed throughout the community. The banners were created by the Royal Canadian Legion, New Hamburg branch, to honour veterans, past and present, that served to protect our peace and freedom.
Special recognition to Legion members, Bob Neubauer and Marie Voisin, Morgan Miller from Ritz Printing, Wilmot residents David and Brittany Hufnagel and local hydro workers, Doug MacLean, Mike Livingston, Jesse Dicks, Matt Skoljuk, Ted McGill and Bob Brenner for their help with this important community initiative.
Visit the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 532 New Hamburg on Facebook to see some of these beautiful banners online and for more information about the Banner Program, please visit newhamburglegion.ca/banner-program.
The Wilmot community is invited to participate in Remembrance Day events at the New Hamburg Cenotaph on Huron Street on November 11 as we remember, with deep respect and immense gratitude, those who served our nation and how meaningful their sacrifices are to our community and cherished way of life.
Castle Kilbride also invites the community to learn about local soldiers who lost their lives during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War through their Wilmot Remembers project. If you are visiting the New Hamburg Cenotaph, New Hamburg Legion, New Dundee Community Park, or Castle Kilbride this weekend, you can also access these stories using the QR codes that will be on display.
