BADEN, ON – April 14, 2022 – Since April 22, 1970, Earth Day has become the largest participatory environmental movement on the planet. This global event creates awareness for environmental protection, conservation and encourages people to take action to reduce environmental impacts. More than 6 million Canadians join 1 billion people from over 170 different countries to participate in Earth Day celebrations and events.
The Township of Wilmot is proud to join over 200 communities across Canada in partnering with EarthDay.ca to create environmental awareness activities. Environmental sustainability and protections are vital to our planet and our community’s way of life. In 2022, the Townships’ focus is on the implementation of carbon reduction strategies and encouraging more community collaboration on sustainability-focused initiatives.
This Earth Day, members of the community will be invited to participate in a community-wide clean-up, hosted by the Township of Wilmot, at various trails and parks throughout the community. This event, led by the Wilmot Trails Committee and Wilmot Sustainability Working Group will also serve as an educational opportunity, allowing us to foster discussions around the importance of working together to create a healthier environment for us all. For more information on how you can get involved visit wilmot.ca/swg
During the week of April 18th, the Township’s Sustainability Working Group will also be sharing daily challenges with staff and the broader community focused on carbon and waste reduction efforts in our everyday lives. Monitor our social media channels for more details.
