The Township of Wilmot ended its Emergency Declaration effective Friday, March 25, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. The Township, alongside all municipalities within the Region of Waterloo, declared a State of Emergency on March 25, 2020, in accordance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The last two years have been challenging for all of us,” said Les Armstrong, Mayor of the Township of Wilmot. “As Ontario moves toward the recovery phase of the pandemic, I want to thank Wilmot residents for doing their part to help protect our community. I also recognize the hard work and dedication of Township staff who continued to deliver essential services throughout the pandemic.”
Community Emergency Management Coordinators across Waterloo Region worked together to develop criteria for ending the State of Emergency. Using this framework, the Township no longer requires the emergency declaration to take action or make orders. All seven (7) lower-tier Waterloo Region municipalities have now lifted their emergency declaration.
Even as restrictions are lifting, it’s important to remember that the pandemic is not completely over. Residents are encouraged to continue to take steps to protect their health and reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community. These steps include getting a third vaccine dose, practicing physical distancing, and staying home when sick.
