The Township of Wilmot is making progress on its 2025 municipal budget. On January 27, members of Council met again to discuss the draft budget, marking the group’s fourth round of deliberations on the topic.
Council made several key decisions at the meeting aimed at lowering the proposed property tax increase. Among these was direction to phase the capital budget increase over the next four years, at 9 percent annually until 2028. This change brings the total proposed tax increase for 2025 from 51 percent to 19.12 percent.
This number includes the proposed 10.12 percent operating budget increase, which was lowered from its original 14 percent at the last meeting. Council is seeking further reductions to operating costs and has asked staff to reduce day-to-day departmental budgets by 5 percent.
Options for reducing departmental costs will be brought before Council at its next budget meeting, planned for February 24, 2025. During the meeting, Council will also review and discuss a revised 2025 budget based on the phased four-year approach to the capital increase.
The meeting will start at 2:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Township of Wilmot Administration Complex (60 Snyder’s Road West, Baden). Members of the public can attend the meeting in person or view it live on the Township’s YouTube channel.
Additional budget meetings may be added to Council’s schedule if further deliberations are required. Information about new meeting dates will be added to the Township’s website as they become available (www.wilmot.ca/budget). In the meantime, residents can share feedback about the budget by emailing budget@wilmot.ca.
