Commemorative Trees and Benches
Celebrate someone special or mark an important occasion with a commemorative tree or bench. Your donation will be placed in a local park, trail, or other Township-owned space, where it can be enjoyed by the entire community.
Donation Process
Follow the steps outlined below to donate a commemorative tree or bench.
Step 1: Complete application form
Once staff have reviewed your application, a site visit will be scheduled to discuss the details of your request.
Step 3: Complete Donation Agreement Form
A Donation Agreement Form will be issued following the site visit and must be reviewed and signed by the person donating the tree or bench.
Township staff will provide direction for payment.
Step 5: Installation and planting
Installation of bench pads and benches will be completed within 12 months of purchase confirmation, contingent upon weather conditions.
Tree plantings are completed annually in the spring and in the fall, as weather permits. Requests for spring planting must be received by April 1 and requests for fall planting by October 1.
The Township of Wilmot reserves the right to select the final location and variety of tree or bench.
Tree Donations
The donation of a tree is a meaningful tribute that continues to bring life and vibrancy to all that surrounds it.
Species and Placement
Tree species chosen must be native to the area, and placement is subject to the discretion of Township of Wilmot staff but will be considered in collaboration with the donor.
The Wilmot Commemorative Application Form outlines options of tree species that are native and most favourable to thrive in local environments. The Township of Wilmot does not offer plaques for commemorative trees.
Purchasing, Planting and Care
After receiving Township approval of request, the donor is responsible to source out and purchase the tree from a nursery of their choice. Payment is not made to the Township of Wilmot.
Arrangements must be made for the nursery to:
- Deliver, plant, and stake the tree in the specified location identified by Township of Wilmot staff
- Provide a tree watering bag
It is the responsibility of the donor to coordinate watering of the tree throughout the first year of planting in accordance with the care instructions provided by the nursery.
Plaques
The Township of Wilmot does not provide plaques or markers for commemorative trees. Donors may choose to purchase and install a plaque or marker at their own expense; however, all designs, wording, and installation details are subject to prior written approval by the Township.
