Entrance Approvals
A driveway or an entrance is an access right that is given to the landowner by the authority in charge of the particular road. Entrances onto Township roads must therefore be approved. Entrance applications are required for:
- New construction;
- Changing design or location;
- Change in use (ie from agricultural to residential);
- Temporary access;
An Entrance Application form must be submitted and approved based on the Township's criteria for approvals. Refer to the Engineering Services page for the appropriate forms.
What is a culvert?
Driveway culverts are used under driveway entrances to permit the free flow of storm water. Culverts can also be used to direct water from one side of the road to the other; this would be referred to as a road culvert. A culvert is a man made structure that is typically concrete, plastic or steel. A list of approved materials can be found in the Design Guidelines and Supplemental Specifications for Municipal Services or DGSSMS. The standard culverts used in Wilmot are typically in the shape of a cylinder, but can also be in the shape of a rectangle, oval, flat bottom, and even pear shaped.
How do I report a failed driveway culvert?
If you have a suspicion that a driveway culvert is in poor condition or in need of replacement please contact the Roads Manager.
