KPMG hired to develop Wilmot’s 2026 budget and long-term financial plan
Wilmot Mayor Natasha Salonen, using the authority available under strong mayor powers and in collaboration with the Corporate Leadership Team, has engaged KPMG to lead the development of the Township's 2026 budget and a long-term financial plan.
This decision reflects Wilmot's commitment to sound financial stewardship, transparent governance, and organizational resiliency. Following internal restructuring within the Township’s financial division, the engagement ensures budget development proceeds with renewed confidence and professional oversight.
“This is about building trust, stability, and fiscal responsibility,” said Mayor Salonen. “KPMG brings professional credibility and proven experience that will help ensure Wilmot’s financial decisions are transparent, accountable, and sustainable. This step aligns with our commitment to responsible budgeting and the long-term financial health of our community.”
The engagement follows feedback from the 2025 budget process, during which both Council and residents expressed concern about consistency and confidence in the Township’s financial practices. KPMG’s involvement will provide an independent assessment, help identify opportunities for improvement, and support the development of an evidence-based budget and financial plan rooted in sustainable practices.
Importantly, the engagement will not create any new cost to taxpayers. It is being fully funded through organizational savings achieved from internal vacancies, making the initiative net neutral to the Township’s operating budget.
“We look forward to working with the professionals at KMPG," said Jeff Willmer, Chief Administrative Officer. "It is important that the 2026 budget builds confidence in understanding where we stand financially, and where we are going in the short and long term.”
The 2026 budget is expected to be completed by early December, with the long-term financial plan finalized early in 2026.
