Township of Wilmot declares Significant Weather Event and extends Snow Event
The Township of Wilmot has declared a Significant Weather Event, effectively immediately, in response to current conditions.
Declaring a Significant Weather Event is a way to tell the public to use extra caution when travelling, as it may take crews longer than usual to clear Township streets and sidewalks.
Residents are asked to avoid unnecessary travel while the Significant Weather Event is in place to keep streets and sidewalks clear for snow removal and ensure public safety.
The public will be notified when the declaration is cancelled, and the Township will then resume maintaining the roads as directed by the Ontario Minimum Maintenance Standards.
Declaring the end of the event does not mean streets and sidewalks are in good usable condition. It only means that the Township feels that the weather has subsided enough that regular maintenance timelines can be met.
In addition to the Significant Weather Event Declaration, the Township of Wilmot is extending its Snow Event for another 24 hours, starting at 12:00 a.m. on February 17, 2025. All on street parking is prohibited during a Snow Event to allow plows to clear roads safely and efficiently. Vehicles parked on the street during the Snow Event may be ticketed and/or towed.
The public will be notified of any extension or cancellation of the Significant Weather and Snow Events through the Township’s website (www.wilmot.ca/news), social media accounts (www.facebook.com/wilmottownship and www.twitter.com/wilmottownship), and local media channels.
Residents can register to receive email updates, as available, at www.wilmot.ca/subscribe.
