Wilmot Mayor Natasha Salonen tables 2026 Township budget
Mayor Natasha Salonen has tabled Wilmot Township’s 2026 budget as part of her strong mayor responsibilities, outlined in the Municipal Act.
Developed in close collaboration with Council, staff, and financial experts from KPMG, the evidence-based budget represents a sustainable and responsible path forward that supports the services residents rely on and invests in the people who deliver them.
As part of budget preparations, KPMG conducted a detailed review of Township spending over the past four years, updating financial assumptions and validating expenses to better forecast future financial needs. The firm also strengthened internal financial processes to align the Township’s budgeting approach with municipal best practices.
The result is a budget that maintains existing service levels while positioning the Township for long-term financial sustainability. The proposed property tax increase is 9.7%; water rates are increasing by 4.9% and wastewater rates are increasing by 5%. Together, the rate increases will total approximately $24 a month ($288 per year) for the average homeowner.
The budget includes $12 million to fund 44 capital projects planned for 2026 and a $1.5 million transfer to reserves. The funding fulfills Council’s 2025 commitment to increase capital investments, including reserve contributions, by 9% per year for three years.
Councillors will discuss the mayor’s budget at a meeting happening on 5:30 p.m. on January 29, 2026. Council may accept the budget at that time or propose amendments.
A copy of the budget is available online www.wilmot.ca/budget. Residents can provide input on the budget by emailing budget@wilmot.ca, or by registering to delegate at the January 29 meeting. Instructions for registering as a delegation are available at www.wilmot.ca/delegations.
