Hello and welcome to the Township of Wilmot and its Fire Department's website. Our primary goal is to provide you, our customer, with fire safety and fire prevention information that will assist you and your family with valuable fire safety information. As well, we will offer a general overview of the services you can expect from the local fire service.
Prevention programs include public education programs, fire safety inspections, Fire Code enforcement, emergency planning and new building plans examination. The public education programs provide residents of all ages with information on how to protect themselves, their homes, families, co-workers and our community on a day-to-day basis. Smoke alarms, CO alarms, home escape plans, Risk Watch, Learn Not to Burn, Older and Wiser, and TAPP-C are some of the recognized programs used by our prevention staff. These are augmented by training programs developed by staff to train our citizens in the use of portable fire extinguishers, development and maintenance of emergency plans, operation of fire detection and suppression systems as well as a host of other safety topics.
Emergency response services include fire suppression, extrication and other rescue operations, emergency medical assistance, and emergency incident management. All firefighters are highly trained and instrumental in the delivery of these services in our community. Our dedicated firefighters are a competent and caring group of local citizens willing to make personal sacrifices for the protection and good of the community. Our firefighter's multi-task filling roles when required in prevention, inspection and public education, in-service training and education programs, apparatus and equipment maintenance while being prepared to ably respond to an emergency incident at any time.
Our Volunteer Fire Service is made up of 80 Volunteer firefighters working out of three fire stations which are housed in New Hamburg, New Dundee and Baden. We have a full-time fire chief, full-time executive assistant, two full-time Fire Prevention/Public Educators and three part-time Fire Training Officers working out of the Parks and Fire Administration Centre in New Hamburg.
The township and Fire Chief is very proud of the caliber of people making up our fire service staff and the high standards they set for themselves in service delivery. Our strength truly is in our people.
Education and prevention programs supported by dedicated emergency responders assures our community of the best possible service today and is the foundation to build towards a safe and secure future. With the support of our citizens - with your support - we will be the leader in community safety.
