Council restricted acts period in effect

Wilmot Township Council entered a restricted acts period under section 275 of the Municipal Act, 2001, effective August 21, 2026.

A restricted acts period, sometimes referred to as a “lame duck” period, occurs during a municipal election when it can be determined that fewer than three-quarters of the members of the outgoing Council will be returning to the new Council.

During this period, Council is restricted from taking certain actions relating to municipal officers and employees, the disposition of property valued over $50,000, and expenditures or liabilities exceeding $50,000. Certain exceptions apply to matters already included in the municipal budget.

The Township has delegated appropriate authorities to staff to maintain continuity of municipal operations during the restricted acts period.

The restricted acts period will continue for the remainder of the current Council term.
