Wilmot Township reminding residents of ways to stay cool during extreme heat
With an Orange Level Heat Warning currently in effect, the Township of Wilmot is reminding residents of ways to stay cool over the next several days.
Cooling centres
The Township is home to several cooling centres where residents can find free refuge from the heat. A list of locations is available at www.wilmot.ca/coolingcentres.
Because these locations are closed on Canada Day, the Township is opening the New Hamburg Arena as a cooling centre from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on July 1.
Pools
Public swimming and aquafit programming are available throughout the week at the Wilmot Recreation Complex, with closures in place for Canada Day. Visit www.wilmot.ca/swimming for schedules and admission details.
Splash pad
The splash pad at the Wilmot Recreation Complex is open daily from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Visit www.wilmot.ca/splashpad for full details.
Canada Day cooling plans
Plans are in place to keep attendees cool and safe at Wilmot’s Canada Day celebration.
A water refill trailer will be onsite all day to ensure free access to water. Large misters offering a quick cool down will be located throughout Norm Hill Park.
There will also be plenty of places to find shade, from the grandstands to the pavilion, over the Kids Zone, and under various tents.
Full event details are available at www.wilmot.ca/canadaday.
